Inspiration:
I was playing with colour, and brioche knitting. That’s what happened! Ooops I made a shawl, hahaha.
I came up with that stitch just fiddling around. Happy accident no doubt.
Geometric shapes have always been my jam. There is calmness in the repetition, and a soothing vibe. Visual feeling of “floating” with this brioche 3-dimensional stitch is super funky and I hope innovative. Hope you like it too, so fun to knit. Easy too.
Colour possibilities are endless. I would recommend choosing a lighter and darker shade of the same colour, or a very contrasting colour combination for best results.
Sizes:
One size. Triangular shape.
Finished Measurements: 20inx20inx10in (51cmx51cmx26cm)
Gauge:
15 sts/17 rows knitted in brioche repeat as instructed, knitted flat, in 4 in/10cm square. Blocked. Using size 6 US (4MM) needles.
Gauge is not crucial for knitting this project. It’s a shawl, if it turns out a bit smaller or larger is not a huge concern. Saving you from pesky swatching. However, it may affect amount of yarn used.
Yarn:
Sport super wash merino 100% 1 skein=284 yards (260m)
Any sport, DK yarn will work.
Colours/Amounts needed:
2 skeins of contrasting colours, total 568 y (520m) (with approx.20 m left over of each colour for making of tassel)
Main colour MC: Dark Blue
Contrast colour CC: Light blue
Notions:
· Size 6 US (4mm) needles, preferably circulars with a longer cord,
· 2 stitch markers to denote the border,
· Darning needle,
· Blocking materials.
Skills required:
· Brioche knitting, beginner brioche friendly pattern,
· Knit, purls, slipping stitches,
· Reading lace chart recommended, but lace pattern is both charted and written out,
· Long tail cast on,
· Picot bind off.
Notes about construction:
Knitted from one end with increases along right-side edge. Knitted flat, ending with a lace repeat. Optional tassel added at the skinny end of shawl. Blocking aggressively is crucial in finishing of this pattern.
